Imported from Japan and thoughtfully prepared, the Hero of the Desert is a clean, mechanically sorted 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero Mini VR-II—the turbocharged, manual-transmission, selectable 4WD version of Mitsubishi's cult-classic kei SUV.

This is not a rough project vehicle, a neglected import, or an unknown auction gamble. It is a well-kept, carefully refreshed, and thoroughly documented example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately.

The engine starts easily, runs strong, and shifts properly. The selectable 4WD system engages exactly as it should—including low range, where this little Pajero proves surprisingly capable. The Badland ZXR 3500 winch functions properly, and the air conditioning blows ice cold (low 50°F vent temperatures at 89°F ambient).
